In the days leading up to Saturdays trade deadline, Gordon Beckham was reading the same reports that you were. Teams were interested in acquiring Beckham in return for that lefty power bat Kenny Williams so dearly wanted.
Around 30 minutes before the 3 p.m. deadline, Beckham sat down in the Sox eating room, thinking he was finally safe. That was until Paul Konerko came by and told the young second baseman that its precisely around this time when Williams says, The heck with it, Ill give you Gordon Beckham.
Gordon thought Konerko was joking. That was until Williams himself came through the door about a minute later and shook Beckham to his core with a classic practical joke.
