The Chicago Blackhawks start training camp on Saturday but Patrick Sharp will be sidelined throughout it.

Sharp underwent an emergency appendectomy on Monday night and will be out the next three to four weeks, team physician Dr. Michael Terry said in a statement. Sharp had surgery after experiencing some abdominal discomfort. Surgery was successful and I anticipate a full recovery in approximately three to four weeks.

Sharp led the Blackhawks with 34 goals last season; he also had 37 assists. He was in attendance early Monday for the Blackhawks 12th annual Four Feathers Golf Invitation in Northfield but did not play.

The Blackhawks open the season Oct. 7 in Dallas, then host the Stars at the United Center on Oct. 8.
