Marian Hossa was helped off the ice and did not return after colliding with defenseman Nick Boynton at the Blackhawks practice on Monday morning.

Both Hossa and Boynton were lying on the ice for a few moments after the hit. Boynton, who said he just got the wind knocked out of him, finished practice. But Hossa was helped off and taken immediately to the locker room. It looked like Hossa was putting more weight on his left leg as he left.

There was no immediate update on Hossas status following practice. Coach Joel Quenneville was not at practice; he and assistant coach Mike Kitchen were attending Pat Burns funeral in Montreal.

Boynton said hes not sure what happened.

"I was facing backward and he ran into me, he said. Im not sure if he got the worst of it or what happened. We both didnt see each other.

Hossa missed several games earlier this season with an upper-body injury.
