The 34th annual National Sports Collectors Convention is set to take place this week in Rosemont. The five-day event will take place between July 31-Aug. 4 and will feature several prominent sports figures, including Cal Ripken Jr., Ricky Henderson, Lou Holtz, Randy Johnson and Ozzie Smith.
"This may be our best signature lineup to date," Ray Schulte, head of Schulte Sports Public Relations said. "We are very excited and hope fans and collectors don’t miss out on a once in a lifetime experience."
Several household Chicago sports figures will be in attendance as well. Mike Ditka, Ernie Banks, Frank Thomas, Bobby Hull, Dan Hampton and Jermaine Dye are committed to participate in the event as well.
Hosting the event in the Chicago-land area, Schulte said, offers a unique blend of culture and appeal for the event.
"Chicago has an exceptionally strong sports tradition with very avid and knowledgeable collectors and a diversified sports fan base," he said. "It is also centrally located, as we have exhibitors from around the country attend each year. Our exhibitors and collectors who travel here love everything Chicago has to offer, from the great restaurants, sports teams and numerous cultural activities."

"We call [the event] a 'sports paradise,' because you will never see the caliber of exhibitors, memorabilia and athletes under one roof at the same time," Schulte said. "It could take someone a few days walking the floor to see just a fraction of the greatest collection of sports and entertainment memorabilia ever assembled in one location."
