NEW YORK (AP) Comments on the San Diego Chargers by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):
SAN DIEGO CHARGERS (24)
Chris Berman (ESPN, 20) - Oh boy.
Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 21) - The next coach needs to help Philip Rivers return to top form.
Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 27)
Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 21) - A big reason why they have struggled the last two seasons has been the play of Philip Rivers, who has 47 turnovers over that time.
Bob Glauber (Newsday, 26) - A week after shocking the Steelers on the road, the Chargers come home and are absolutely abysmal against the Panthers. This is some rebuilding job ahead.
Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 25) - The Chargers have never replaced LaDainian Tomlinson. They have rushed for only four touchdowns this season. Tomlinson scored that many touchdowns in a single-game eight times in his career.
Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 26) - Since Oct. 1 the Bolts have one more victory than the San Diego Padres. Check, please.
Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 24) - There will be a new head coach and GM to turn this ship around.
Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 26) - So much for the great December record. The Chargers let Rivers get sacked six times and the season looks over which is puzzling after their outstanding performance in Pittsburgh two weeks ago.
John Lynch (Fox Sports, 24) - "Turn out the lights the party appears to be over" for A.J. Smith and Norv Turner.
Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 24) - Head coach Norv Turner and general manager A.J. Smith are shouldering the blame, but quarterback Philip Rivers hasn't helped matters with 22 turnovers that include a career-high seven lost fumbles.
Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 24) - They are selling tickets on Groupon, but they might have to pay fans to come in order to sell out their home finale.
