The Cubs made a few roster moves Thursday following their claim of RHP Carlos Gutierrez Wednesday afternoon.
Catcher Anthony Recker, who was designated for assignment Wednesday to make room for Gutierrez, was claimed off waivers by the New York Mets.
In addition, several players have been outrighted to Triple-A Iowa and removed from the 40-man roster, including infielder Adrian Cardenas and RHPs Miguel Socolovich, Jason Berken and Marcos Mateo.
Cardenas, Socolovich and Berken were all waiver claims during the 2012 season.
Mateo came over to the Cubs as a player to be named from the Cincinnati Reds in a 2007 deal involving Buck Coats. The 28-year-old righty appeared in 44 games for the big-league club from 2010-11, but injuries have derailed his career of late and he did not pitch in 2012.
