The Fire have traded defender Wilman Conde to the New York Red Bulls for allocation money in a deal that was announced Monday.

Conde spent last year with Mexicos Atlas, where he scored two goals in 13 appearances. He started 66 games for the Fire from 2007-10, helping the team to postseason appearances in his first three seasons. He was a two-time MLS All-Star and had four goals and four assists in 77 appearances.

We reviewed the situation and wanted to support Wilmans return to MLS," Fire head coach Frank Klopas said in a statement. "The allocation money we received in return will help us continue to build our team.

The 29-year-old Colombian came to the MLS from Millonarios in his home country.

Having protected Conde during the 2010 MLS Expansion Draft, the Fire held the MLS right of first refusal.
