Quickly after the Masterton Trophy candidates were announced, the NHL named the nominees for General Manager of the Year.
Nashville's David Poile, St. Louis' Doug Armstrong, and Florida's Dale Tallon are vying for the award. All three general managers' teams are currently in the playoffs and each of their organizations are missing resources to spend to the salary cap.
Poile has especially stood out this season, lifting the Predators to their most exciting run in Nashville's history. As general manager, Poile brought Shea Weber and Ryan Suter to the team and signed them to long-term contracts.
Since November of 2011, he's signed goalie Pekka Rinne to a seven-year contract extension. In addition, Poile brought Paul Gaustad, Hal Gill, and Andre Kostitsyn to the Preds, making them one of the most threatening teams in the league.
