Don't count Jackie Robinson West out just yet.
Facing elimination from the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., the kids from Chicago overcame deficits on two separate occasions to beat Rhode Island's Cumberland American 8-7.
Pierce Jones, who hit three home runs in a Friday win, led off Monday's game with his fourth bomb of the tournament to give Chicago an early lead. Rhode Island countered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame, but Jackie Robinson West quickly came back with a four-run inning of their own, thanks in part to a three-run homer from pitcher Trey Hondras, to take a 5-2 lead.
Rhode Island wasn't going down without a fight either, using a handful of singles and a home run from Trey Tebow to help manufacture a five-run third inning to take a 7-6 lead.
But with their backs against the wall, Jackie Robinson West came up with one last bout of heroics in the fifth inning, with RBI singles from Darion Radcliff and Josh Houston (his second of the night) acting as the difference in the thrilling victory.
With the win, Jackie Robinson West will now face the kids from Pearland, Texas tomorrow evening in another win-or-go home contest.
