The accolades continue to pour in for Simeon star Jabari Parker, who was named 2012 Mr. Basketball of Illinois. He is the first junior to win the award since it was first handed out 32 years ago.
That was a goal, Parker told the Chicago Tribune of winning the award. But not before winning a state championship. Winning that says everything is complete for me this season. Being a part of that category (of past winners) says a lot to me. I get to represent my school.Parker earned 74 of 93 first place votes, with Keith Carter of Proviso East coming in second and North Chicago's Aaron Simpson finishing third. The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 19.5 points, 8.9 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 3.3 blocks for the state-champion Wolverines this season. The award is presented by the Chicago Tribune and the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association.
Parker has already been named the Gatorade Illinois Player of the Year and USA Basketball's Male Athlete of the year.
