Rencher, Sherman pace Homwood-Flossmoor

After Joliet West went on a 13-3 run to grab a 33-32 lead late in the third quarter Friday night, Homewood-Flossmoor turned to its senior leaders to carry it home.Delvon Rencher, Tyrone Sherman and Tim Williams combined for 16 of the No. 17 Vikings 20 fourth-quarter points as H-F held on for a 60-53 win in a SouthWest Suburban Blue opener in Flossmoor.We held strong and it was nice to see that, H-F coach Jim McLaughlin said. We stayed focused and stepped up on the defensive end. Were all family and we trusted each other.The Tigers grabbed the brief third-quarter advantage behind Marlon Johnson (17 points, 12 rebounds), who scored six points in the frame.Rashaan Surles, who had 11 points off the bench, hit a three-pointer to give the Vikings the lead for good at 35-33 with 2:15 left in the third.Johnson, who picked up his fourth foul with two seconds left in the third, was held to two points in the fourth.I think Marlon got a little tentative, Joliet West coach Luke Yaklich said.
