DENVER Dave Bolland is out with an upper-body injury and Marty Turco will get the start in goal when the Chicago Blackhawks face the Avalanche tonight at Pepsi Center.
The Blackhawks called up Ryan Potulny from Rockford to replace Bolland, who coach Joel Quennville said is day to day with an injury he sustained against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night. The Blackhawks now have four players out of the lineup.
Our approach has been good (through injuries), guys have been upbeat and certain guys are getting opportunities, Quenneville said. Everybody goes through it, nobody feels sorry for you, nor should they.
Turco will get his first start since Dec. 3, when the Blackhawks were shut out by Vancouver 3-0. Corey Crawford, who has won seven of his last eight starts, is coming off what Quenneville called arguably his best game of the year, a 2-1 overtime loss to San Jose.
(Crawford) deserved a lot of consideration, Quenneville said. Certainly it wasnt easy.
Meanwhile, Quenneville said Marian Hossa, Patrick Kane and Fernando Pisani could all be skating today or Tuesday. Kane was expected out up to three weeks with that left ankle injury.
We think hes progressing well, Quenneville said of Kane. Well have a better indication when he starts to skate. Hopefully he can get on the ice the next day or two.
