Josh Vitters extended his hitting streak to five games on Saturday but it wasnt enough to help Mesa, which dropped an 8-7 decision to the Peoria Javelinas.

Vitters was 1-for-5 with a walk and scored a run. Hes hitting .348 8-for-23 during the streak with six RBIs and five runs scored.

Kyle Smit pitched a scoreless inning, issuing only a walk while Chris Carpenter allowed a run on two hits in an inning of work.

The AFL season probably cant come to an end soon enough for Johnnie Lowe, who got hit hard once again Saturday night as the Sags dropped an 8-1, seven-inning decision at Phoenix.

Lowe gave up four runs on four hits and three walks in three innings to take the loss and fall to 0-4 in six starts. Hes allowed at least four runs in each of his starts and has an ERA of 14.58 in 16 23 innings. Hes allowed six homers and the opposition is hitting .447 against him.

Infielder Eduardo Escobar, outfielder Jared Mitchell and catcher Jason Bour combined to go 0-for-6.
