Josh Vitters had a big day on Tuesday as Mesa routed the Peoria Saguaros, 18-9, in Peoria. Vitters, who had gone hitless in his previous three games, had a pair of doubles, drove in a run and scored twice.
Ryan Flaherty has a dingle to extend his thing streak to five games. Hes hitting .350 7-for-20 during the streak with three RBIs. Vitters scored a run on Tuesday and also drew a pair of walks.
Eduardo Escobar paced the Sags with a pair of hits, including a homer and two RBIs. The White Sox infielder also scored twice. Jason Bour added two hits, including a double.
A trio of Sox pitchers, however, did not fare as well. Johnnie Lowe had his third straight rough outing, collecting his second consecutive loss. He allowed five runs on seven hits over 2 13 innings. Hes got a 14.04 ERA in 8 13 innings after posting a 3.96 ERA in 25 games at Double-A Birmingham during the regular season.
Henry Mabee allowed five runs, none of them earned, on four hits in a 1 13 innings before Charlie Leesman allowed three runs one earned in a third of an inning.
In other White Sox news, the club waived right-hander Carlos Torres, 28, so he could pursue pitching opportunities in Asia. Torres was 9-9 with a 3.42 ERA in 27 games 25 starts for Triple-A Charlotte. He was 0-1 with an 8.56 ERA in 13 23 innings over five appearances for the parent club.
