Artemi Panarin scored with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation but Andrew Copp had the final say as the Winnipeg Jets beat the Blackhawks 2-1 on Sunday night.
It was the Blackhawks’ second consecutive loss and their first one in regulation at home since the season opener.
Jonathan Toews missed his sixth consecutive game and it sounds as though the captain could miss more. Coach Joel Quenneville said prior to the game that Toews will stay off the ice the next couple of days and be re-evaluated mid-week; his injury is not improving.
Scott Darling, who will be playing a bulk of the games in Corey Crawford’s absence, stopped 30 of 32 shots. It was another night on which the goaltending kept the Blackhawks in the game. The Blackhawks, however, couldn’t generate much on the other end.
Then came Panarin’s shot, a slick one off a pass from Patrick Kane with 6:54 remaining in regulation. But the tie didn’t last long as Copp beat Darling stick side with 4:45 remaining in the third.
The Blackhawks got a four-minute power play with 2:49 remaining in regulation but couldn’t capitalize on it. Marian Hossa was stopped by Connor Hellebuyck with 2.6 seconds remaining in regulation.
In snowy conditions the Bears receiving corps had a solid day in Sunday's 26-6 win against the 49ers.
Josh Bellamy led the way with four receptions for 93 yards, while Cam Meredith, Deonte Thompson and Daniel Brown each had multiple catches.
