LOS ANGELESMatt Garzas right elbow didnt respond the way the Cubs hoped, so he will be heading back to Chicago for further evaluation.

Garzas plans to start Tuesday night in San DiegoYou better effin believe it, dudehave been scrapped and he will wind up on the disabled list.

Garza felt stiff on Sunday after throwing two side sessions this weekend at Dodger Stadium. He hasnt pitched in a game since July 21, when he experienced triceps cramping. An MRI on his elbow revealed traces of fluid, but was otherwise said to be clean.

Nothing major, but hes not going to be able to go on Tuesday, manager Dale Sveum said. Were going to back him off and send him home to see the doctor and just be a little more cautionary.

The Cubs will evaluate their options for a spot starter on the bus ride from Los Angeles to San Diego. Brooks Raley, Chris Rusin and Casey Coleman each started this weekend for Triple-A Iowa, making it a difficult turnaround.
