NEW YORK -- Jesse Crain came off the field on Thursday afternoon and told pitching coach Don Cooper it didnt feel good as he entered the clubhouse.

Shortly thereafter, the White Sox reliever was headed to be examined by a local doctor for tightness in his right shoulder.

Crain, who is 2-1 with a 2.38 ERA in 24 games this season, was cleared by the doctor, a team official said, though he is likely unavailable for Thursday nights series opener against the New York Yankees.

The right-hander last pitched at home on Saturday night against the Milwaukee Brewers. He has 99 holds since 2005, the fifth most in the American League.

Crain was on the disabled list earlier this season (April 21-May 14) with a strained left oblique.
