Crain improving, status still up in the air

NEW YORK --- Jesse Crain called Sundays throwing session an improvement and believes hell know by Tuesday whether or not he needs to be placed on the disabled list.

The White Sox reliever hasnt pitched since June 25 with tightness in his right shoulder. He played catch in the bullpen on Sunday after he took the previous two days off.

Crain said he will go to U.S. Cellular Field on Monday for treatment and will resume throwing on Tuesday.

I threw a little bit off the mound with tennis shoes on to get an angle and its definitely an improvement from all week, Crain said. So Ill take that as a step forward.

Crain --- who is 2-1 with a 2.38 ERA in 24 games this season --- felt bad enough after he played catch on Friday to go see the specialist who performed his shoulder surgery in 2007. But Crain didnt require an MRI and was just told to further rest his shoulder.

Hes gotten a pretty good prognosis of what it is, White Sox manager Robin Ventura said before Sundays game. Its giving him some time and hopefully that will do the trick. I dont foresee a DL stint for him.
