DETROIT -- Its not to say Brett Myers wont close games for the White Sox, but for now dont expect any changes in the ninth inning.
White Sox manager Robin Ventura said after Saturdays 7-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers that rookie Addison Reed remains the teams closer.
The White Sox acquired Myers, who has 19 saves for the Houston Astros this season, earlier in the day to stabilize their bullpen. General manager Kenny Williams said he will leave the choice up to Ventura as to who closes ballgames.
Reed has converted 15 of 18 save opportunities this season.
Asked about Myers role, Ventura suggested he will act as a setup man, though Myers can also close games if Reed is unavailable.
Hes probably in there doing the same stuff as Jesse (Crain), Ventura said. Reeder is still going to be closing. Theres the option to move (Myers) around and do a lot of different stuff. But for me right now, Addy has really earned the right to do that. Hes going to be the one doing that.
