Cincinnati tight ends caught all 10 passes intended for them, five each by rookie Tyler Eifert and Pro Bowler Jermaine Gresham. Safeties share some responsibility, but the Bears were not making it consistently too difficult for quarterback Andy Dalton to exploit matchups that the Bengals wanted.
But James Anderson broke up two passes to go with five tackles, and Lance Briggs had seven tackles, one for loss, and added a pass deflection.
“I missed a lot of tackles today,” Briggs said. “I can’t miss tackles like that. But, we’ll move forward.”
D.J. Williams got the start, as expected at middle linebacker and finished with three tackles, coming out in nickel situations.
The group contributed to shutting down a respectable running game. Cincinnati netted 33 rushing yards in the first quarter, then just 30 on 15 carries over the final three.
