It’s been five years since football didn’t matter to Charles Tillman, but he had to find a way to make it matter as much as it had prior to that day when Lovie Smith called him out of an off-season practice and told him to go home. His daughter, Tiana, was very sick.

Tiana, Charles and the rest of Tillmans turned out to be very lucky. Despite the three-month-old needing a heart transplant, a donor was found three months later, and she’s about as healthy as any five-year-old little girl can be.

"Peanut" discusses that time in his life on the latest edition of “Inside Look,” debuting Saturday night at 9:30 on Comcast SportsNet. He’d already been doing charitable work through his Cornerstone Foundation for three years, but his daughter’s ordeal changed the focus of the organization, and the focus of the Bears’ Pro Bowl corner. He was already well-grounded, raised by a military father on the south side of Chicago, but he explains how he had to separate work from his concerns at home. The outcome has touched thousands of sick kids and their families here in the Chicago area.

Charles also explains how the “Peanut Punch” came about, not setting his sights high enough in the greatest season he’s enjoyed in his decade as a Bear, and wanting to reach the same pinnacle the Blackhawks have enjoyed twice in the past four years. And yes, there’s discussion of the on-field adjustments this year brings – without Lovie Smith, without Brian Urlacher, and without any security beyond this season, when his contract runs out.

That, and many other topics are included from a player who’s always been very good, but just might have been at his best in his ninth NFL season. So check out ‘”Inside Look: Peanut Tillman, presented by Cadillac,” at 9:30 p.m. tonight, only on Comcast SportsNet.
