He's one of the greatest players to ever wear a Chicago Bears uniform. He's headed to the Hall of Fame. Now can we at least say his name the right way?

After 13 seasons as the face of the franchise, Brian Urlacher is calling it a career. It's not surprising news. If you want surprising, try the fact that  millions still can't say his name correctly!

Urlacher is pronounced Ur-LACKER. It's not Ur-locker.

It's not just an occasional casual fan making the mistake. I've heard dozens of media personalities butcher it. I'm sure I've slipped up too. The question is, why? It's not that tough.

Ur-Lacker. Say it again, Ur-lacker. Now, for those of you who are old enough to remember chalkboards ... go write it 1,000 times and say it loudly.

How is it possible that more people pronounce Jeff Samardzija's last name correctly than Brian Urlacher's name? Even former Bears teammate Brendon Ayanbajedo had less confusion.

The national media isn't saying Brett Favor. The local media never called the "Big Hurt" Frank Toe-mas.

He played 182 regular season games in one uniform. He's an eight-time Pro Bowler and one of the best linebackers in NFL history. Let's all vow to at least say his name correctly. A retirement present from all of us.

Here's one vote for retiring Ur-Locker.
