PHILADELPHIA — Other then having Sunday's game against perhaps the Jacksonville Jaguars or Houston Texans in Soldier Field, the Bears could not have scripted Sunday night’s situation any better.
With Detroit (7-8) and Green Bay (7-7-1) losing a matter of minutes before their own kickoff with the Philadelphia Eagles, the Bears began Sunday night with a chance to clinch the NFC North with a win over the Eagles.
And for the Eagles (8-6), the outcome meant little in NFC East competition because the Dallas Cowboys (8-7) squeaked by the Washington Redskins earlier, making the Eagles’ game in Dallas next Sunday the determining game for the winner of that division.
Whether or how much Eagles coach Chip Kelly would rest any key players in preparation for that game remained to play out. Both the Bears and Eagles are vying for playoff seeding, with the No. 3 seed drawing the second wild-card team in the first round of the playoffs.
