Bears defense standing pat at safety

The problems on defense have not produced any shakeup yet after a week off and coaches reviewing film and options.

Chris Conte and Major Wright ended the Washington Redskins game as the starting safeties and “we’re going with the guys we have,” coach Marc Trestman said. The roster has veteran Craig Steltz and Anthony Walters available but coaches will stay the course, with Trestman suggesting a simple remedy: “We have to do our jobs better.”

Rookie linebacker Khaseem Greene has not been installed as the replacement for injured Lance Briggs, although Greene was operating as the No. 1 on Monday. Blake Costanzo, newly signed Larry Grant and backup Jerry Franklin also are under consideration.

No decision was announced on whether James Anderson or Jon Bostic will formally take over relaying the defensive signals from coaches to the huddle
