Matt Forte ran for 110 yards in 22 carries to set career bests for season rushing yards (1,339) and scored on carries of one and five yards. He caught all four passes directed to him to 47 yards, in the process setting a franchise season record for catches (74) while catching one Sunday for his third touchdown and giving him 12 TDs on the season, tying his personal best from his rookie season.
His nine rushing touchdowns were also a career high, as were his 1,933 yards from scrimmage, representing the fifth-highest total in franchise history.
“He’s underrated, I think, in the public eye,” said quarterback Jay Cutler. "I think he’s the best all-around back in the NFL.”
Forte gave the Bears their first two leads, with a four-yard reception from Jay Cutler in the first quarter and a five-yard run in the third. He used his blockers effectively to extend runs and receptions, turning one short pass into a 33-yard pickup in addition to runs of 20, 16, 15 and 11 yards.
“That’s the way we expect things to go,” Forte said. “If we can get the running game going, that takes pressure off [Cutler] and he can work the open receivers on those deep throws.”
Michael Bush was used in spot duty, netting 11 yards on two carries and lined up as a lead blocker for Forte on occasion.
