Shortly after Bears cornerback Tim Jennings was named to the Pro Bowl roster, offensive guard Kyle Long was chosen to go to join his teammate in Hawaii to replace injured San Francisco 49ers guard Mike Iupati who broke his ankle in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game against the Seahawks.
Extremely honored to represent the Bears in the Pro Bowl. Thank you to all the fans for taking the time to vote. Praying for Mike Iupati— Kyle Long (@Ky1eLong) January 21, 2014
Long was selected 20th overall in last year’s draft coming out of Oregon. He started all 16 games for an explosive Bears offense that saw a resurgence under new coach Marc Trestman.
Long is the first Bears offensive lineman to go to the Pro Bowl since 2006 when Olin Kreutz and Ruben Brown made the trip to Hawaii. He joins Jennings, running back Matt Forte and wide receivers Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall on this year's Pro Bowl roster.
The game will be played this Sunday at 6 p.m CT.
