Vic Carucci and Nathan Zegura were off on their “Blitz” around the NFL for “Cleveland Browns Daily” on Tuesday and the guys were interested in not only the Brandon Marshall deal and how much the loss of Julius Peppers would hurt, but also what the Bears needed to do defensively to make the playoffs this season.

My thought with Vic and Nathan: Just be “bad.” The defense was below bad last season and it still took a complete breakdown in game 16 vs. the Green Bay Packers to miss the playoffs. Staying healthy is a cliché cure-all for teams, but if the Bears have half the injuries that they had on defense last year, they are very likely playing more than 16 games.

“They may have signed a Jared Allen, Lamarr Houston and so forth, but unless your ‘purple’ and ‘blue’ players are delivering, that’s the key. They just have to stay healthy.”
