Right now Trestman plans to have his team practice Christmas Day. He doesn’t have a precise schedule yet, but with a Sunday night game in Philadelphia, “we are coming off a Sunday night and where our players are, because we have gone days like this where we might only practice two days to give them another day of rest. But we will have them back at 11 o’clock on Wednesday.”

And if the Detroit Lions lose their noon game vs. the New York Giants, and if the Green Bay Packers fall to Pittsburgh in the later game Sunday, then the Bears would be playing the Eagles with the chance to clinch the NFC North and render the following Sunday’s game with Green Bay meaningless.

So would Trestman make a deal that if his team then takes care of business in Philadelphia, they get Christmas Day off as well?

“How can I respectfully answer that question?” Trestman said, laughing. “I don’t even know when Saturday and Sunday is. We’re getting ready to play a game on Sunday.”

Let the record show: One word absent from Trestman’s respectful answer was “no.”
