Not sure if you heard, but the Bears will be without Brian Urlacher this season after their defensive captain retired after last year.

In his stead, 11th-year veteran Lance Briggs will have to step up as the leader of the defense.

"It's a different kind of focus," Briggs said on SportsNet Central Tuesday night. "Making sure everybody is aligned, allowing guys to play fast defensively. It's a new job."

Briggs also provides some words of advice for rookie linebacker Jon Bostic and runs down the new scheme under first-year defensive coordinator Mel Tucker, indicating some surprises are in order.

But the real focus on the Bears this preseason has been the new offense. How has it fared so far?

"We've seen our offense get better and better through each preseason game. I've seen them get better and better through each practice. Our offensive coaches are very smart."

Briggs will join Comcast Sports Net for Season 4 of "The Lance Briggs Show" every week throughout the season. The premiere comes next Tuesday at 11 p.m.
