The Bears have an obvious need on the defensive side of the ball (pick a position), and Missouri defensive end Michael Sam, who yesterday became the first openly gay NFL prospect, could be one of the answers.
The former All-American is considered a mid-round prospect and, at 6-foot-2, 255 pounds, may need to convert to linebacker at the next level after tallying 11.5 sacks and an SEC-best 19 tackles for loss for the Tigers a year ago.
The SportsTalk Live panel debated on whether or not Sam would be worth the media circus that is sure to come along with him, wherever he winds up.
David Schuster said that despite what may come from the media, Sam's worth should be judged on the football field.
"I'm looking at him as a football player," he said. "The things to consider is that in college he was a defensive lineman but he's a little small in the NFL."
