The good news was Jay Cutler practiced for the first time in nearly a month on Thursday afternoon.
The bad news came afterward when head coach Marc Trestman ruled Cutler out for Monday night's game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Cutler is still recovering from a high-ankle sprain he suffered in a Week 10 loss to the Detroit Lions.
Josh McCown will continue to start at quarterback while Cutler remains sidelined.
The Bears received more bad news on Thursday when Trestman also announced that linebacker Lance Briggs (shoulder) won't play against the Cowboys.
