Former Bears wide receiver Sam Hurd was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Wednesday for drug distribution. Hurd, 28, was facing a minimum sentence of 10 years for this act.
Hurd was arrested in 2011 for allegedly trying to purchase and sell a large amount of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested again in August 2012 for failing two drug tests which went against his bonds.
Hurd last played for the Bears in 2011 and is known for his five-year tenure with the Dallas Cowboys from 2006-2010. In 66 career games, he had 53 receptions for 739 yards and two touchdowns.
Hurd will be 43 years old upon his release.
