Giovani Bernard had a strong season as a rookie running back with the Bengals last year.

But it's his connections to legendary Bear Brian Piccolo that might interest fans in Chicago.

Bernard attended the same high school as Piccolo in Florida — St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale — and played on a field named for Piccolo.

"I've seen that movie ("Brian's Song") probably every year in high school, probably in like four or five different classes," Bernard said in an interview with CSN's David Kaplan promoting DirecTV Sunday Ticket. "That's something that a lot of people that are from down there that went to St. Thomas know about."

But the connections don't end there. Bernard also was the recipient of the Brian Piccolo Award while in college at North Carolina, something that meant a lot to him.

"To have somebody that went to your high school, you played at the field that was named after him, it's weird how it all comes back together," he said.
