Sometimes when things aren’t going all that well, it can help to make a little change. Shea McClellin wore No. 92 as a star at Boise State. When he came to the Bears, Stephen Paea was ensconced in 92, so McClellin took No. 99. Now as he moves to linebacker, he’ll be changing numbers again, and maybe that’s a good thing.

According to ChicagoBears.com, newly signed defensive lineman Lamarr Houston will take over No. 99, the number he wore as an Oakland Raider, and McClellin will move into a 50-something. That will be either the 50 worn last season by James Anderson, with the blessing of Hall of Famer Mike Singletary, or 52, with Blake Costanzo’s time in Chicago ending.

No. 54 is available but…

One of the 50s will be going to linebacker Jordan Senn, also signed in the whirlwind early hours of free agency on Tuesday.

And incoming safety Ryan Mundy will take over the No. 21 worn by Major Wright, who didn’t have a lot of success in either that jersey or the 27 he wore his first two Chicago seasons.
