Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery is proving doubters wrong, one of whom was former Tennessee and USC coach Lane Kiffin.
In 2009, Jeffery was in the midst of a recruiting battle between Tennessee and South Carolina. He later committed to South Carolina. Kiffin, then coach at Tennessee, was heavily involved in the recruiting.
According to Jeffrey, Kiffin told the future Bear if he committed to South Carolina, he would end up ‘pumping gas for the rest of his life like all the other players from that state who had gone to South Carolina.’
The Bears drafted Jeffery in the second round of the 2012 draft. Jeffery has 75 receptions along with 1,193 receiving yards and six touchdowns this season.
Jeffery and Brandon Marshall are the first Bears receiving duo to have a 1,000-yard season since Curtis Conway and Jeff Graham in 1995. Also, he became just the seventh player in league history to have two 200-yard receiving games in one season.
