The Detroit Lions will be without their leading pass catcher from this season for awhile.

Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson broke his arm in an automobile accident Tuesday morning.

According to Michigan State Police, Burleson crashed a GMC Yukon SUV into the interstate's media near Drake Road just after 2 a.m. Police also said that the  nine-year-pro was "distracted" by two large pizzas that were falling off his front seat and alcohol wasn't a factor in the crash. Burleson was wearing his seat belt.

Burleson suffered a broken leg last season while playing.

Lions head coach Jim Schwartz contacted Burleson after the crash.

"Understandably his spirits are low," Schwartz said. "He was down. He just came off his best performance as a Lion and his best performance since, I think, 2007. He was just getting in to the swing of things. He was a big part of our offense."

The Lions take on the Bears this Sunday at noon.
