Adrian Hubbard (OLB), Alabama
6'6" | 257 lbs.
33 tackles (20 solo), 3 sacks, 5.5 tackles for loss, 3 passes defended
What the scouts are saying:
"A long-bodied, athletic rush linebacker with the base strength desired in a 4-3 left defensive end, Hubbard's greatest physical trait is his core functional strength and ability to leverage the edge and defend the run." (Nolan Nawrocki, NFL.com)
"The physical potential of the freakishly-sized Adrian Hubbard is one of two things anchoring his draft stock after a massively disappointing junior campaign. The other is that he looked the part of a promising prospect as a sophomore. Rounding him back into that form is what his NFL team will be tasked with." (Darren Page, Bleacher Report)
"He should have returned for his senior year, and WalterFootball.com heard from sources that Alabama didn't make much a pitch for him to comeback. Hubbard had a decent week at the Senior Bowl and followed that up with a similar performance at the Combine." (WalterFootball.com)
Fit for the Bears:
Hubbard is quite the interesting case for a 4-3 defense. At 6-foot-6 he'll almost certainly play defensive end in such a defense. Right now he's best served as a bull rusher who was stout against the run and had the occasional pass rush. He's solid at the point of attack, but teams may question his ability to rush the passer, as his speed is still a question. Still, if he can put it all together he's got the talent to make things happen. The Bears still need work on the defensive line even with their offseason acquisitions, so looking at Hubbard could be an option.
