What the scouts are saying:

"A big, outside-the-numbers possession receiver with good length and hand-eye coordination to fend for a roster spot as a No. 4 or No. 5 receiver." (Nolan Nawrocki,

"Tall, long athlete with a large wingspan and catching radius to snare throws away from his frame. Tough, willing blocker who doesn't stop competing. Steady and consistent and was able to be productive with several below average passers. Some special teams experience as a return man on kickoffs and punts." (Dane Brugler,

"Hoffman is a big receiver who uses his size well. He is a serious weapon in the red zone as he runs good routes and has excellent hands. However, the big question about Hoffman is if he has enough speed to get separation from NFL defensive backs. " (

Fit for the Bears:

In the past, the Bears' receiving group used to be an area of concern. Now, it's arguably their biggest strength — with Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery anchoring the No. 1 and 2 spots — but they could still use some depth and versatility. Hoffman built a strong collegiate resume (47 career starts), and set multiple school records at BYU, including career catches (260), receiving yards (3,612), and receiving touchdowns (33). While it's unknown whether Hoffman will be selected in this years draft, Phil Emery is known for bringing in undrafted receivers on a tryout basis.
