What the scouts are saying:

"Thick-bodied defensive back with cornerback and safety traits whose size and speed likely dictate his future at safety in the NFL. Character concerns will cloud his draft status and have already knocked him off some draft boards, and bust potential might outweigh his upside." (Nolan Nawrocki, NFL.com)

"Boasts the quick feet, fluid hips and sudden acceleration to handle press coverage duties, alternately punching the receiver to jam him at the line of scrimmage or waiting to run with him downfield. Good instincts for the position." (Rob Rang, CBSSports.com)

"The junior shouldn't have entered the 2014 NFL Draft. There are a lot of off-the-field concerns about Hampton that are pushing him lower despite him having second-day talent. He ran slowly at the Combine as well." (WalterFootball.com)

Fit for the Bears:

The Bears are set at both starting cornerback positions going into the 2014 season after locking up Tim Jennings to a long-term deal and re-signing veteran Charles Tillman to a one-year contract. Veteran Kelvin Hayden and nickelback Isaiah Frey round out the rest of the team's positional group. However, the Bears appear to be on the lookout for some depth at cornerback in the 2014 NFL Draft, especially with Tillman's future in doubt. Hampton is a player that has the athleticism to stick at either corner or safety at the next level. Off-the-field issues have dropped his draft stock to the third day, but if Hampton could keep his head on straight he could be a potential steal as a late-round pick.
