BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Green Bay Packers were always going to make peace with one of their all-time greats, bringing Brett Favre back into the fold after the unpleasant rupture when he left for the New York Jets and eventually the Minnesota Vikings.

Favre and the Packers will cement that relationship next year when the team retires his No. 4 jersey and inducts him into its Hall of Fame in 2015.

A similar Chicago scenario could play out in the not-too-distant future with one of the Bears’ own: Brian Urlacher.

Despite the testy parting when Urlacher and the team could not reach contract agreement prior to last season, the team has not closed the door to honoring the centerpiece of their defense from 2000-2012.

How will it play out? Urlacher is not the type to ask for honors, which always made him uncomfortable. The team is expected to do the asking, and the surprise will be if No. 54 doesn’t follow Favre back into his team’s family.
