Today's Throwback Thursday? Despite playing for the Green Bay Packers (kidding) this Class of 2007 bruiser remains one of my all-time favorite players to watch.
Name: Bryan Bulaga
High School: Marian Central Catholic
High School measurables: 6-foot-5, 270 pounds
Graduation year: 2007
Position: Offensive Tackle
Rivals.com ranking? Bulaga was a four-star recruit, per the final Rivals.com Class of 2007 recruit rankings. He was ranked as the 70th best player in the nation, the sixth best offensive tackle prospect in the nation and was also the No. 2 recruit in the state of Illinois.
Bulaga (who played tight end/offensive tackle and defensive end in high school for the Hurricanes) gave the University of Iowa his verbal commitment in May of 2006. He started at guard in his freshman season (2007) for the Hawkeyes and was named as a second-team All Big Ten selection. He moved to tackle his sophomore season and remained a starter for Iowa in 2008 and 2009. He decided to leave Iowa in 2010 for the NFL and was the 23rd overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Packers. Bulaga has started 33 games for the Packers while also dealing with various injuries over the past three seasons.
EDGY's early impressions of Bryan Bulaga? Bulaga was simply a no nonsense, down-to-earth player who was about as straight forward as any player I've ever covered. On the field? He was a very talented two-way player who had exceptional quickness and athletic ability, who also ran as well or better than several skill position players at the high school level. He gave Iowa his early verbal commitment, and his pledge was never in doubt with the Hawkeyes despite being recruited heavily. Iowa was his favorite college growing up.
I pulled this from my January 2006 first interview with Bulaga which is linked above:
So what's in Bryan Bulaga's CD player these days (January 2006)? I really listen to everything from country, like Rascal Flatts and Toby Keith to rap like 50 Cent and Ludacris to rock like AC/DC and Metallica.
Player you most admire (January 2006)? Brian Urlacher.
