Martellus Bennett is a proven every down tight end, Matthew Mulligan is a sledgehammer and Dante Rosario is a core special-teams player. The Bears need all three.

The roster:

Starter: Martellus Bennett

Bench: Matthew Mulligan, Dante Rosario;

The cuts: Jeron Mastrud.

The thinking: Matthew Mulligan is first a blocker at 6-4, 267 pounds, but also caught four passes through the first three preseason games. He is expected to play a strong role in the offense, and he serves as blocking backup not only at tight end, but also for fullback Tony Fiammetta.

Rosario is involved in kick coverage and the return game, in addition to being able to catch an occasional pass (two in preseason, both against Philadelphia).

Complete roster breakdown:

-Quarterbacks
-Running backs
-Wide receivers
-Tight ends
