The Detroit offense was held in check during the first half and significant credit goes to the linebackers, who were quick into gaps and held Reggie Bush to 16 yards on five carries and nothing longer than five yards. Throws to tight end Brandon Pettigrew (4-for-4) were an issue but the Lions netted only 106 yards, far off their average.
But the Lions were able to move the ball on the ground in the second half and Bush and Joique Bell finished with 146 combined rush yards. Bush’s 39-yard bolt through the defense was at the expense of Chris Conte’s missed tackle, but Bush should never have had the head of steam he did by the time he reached Conte on the third level.
Jon Bostic delivered two solid stops at the line in the first half and finished with six tackles, matched by James Anderson who also had a tackle for loss. Khaseem Greene, however, had just one tackle, limited to 24 total snaps with the Bears forced to play nickel personnel on 47 of Detroit’s snaps.
