As one defensive lineman said afterward, the offense played well enough to win, and Josh McCown did enough himself. He completed a franchise-record 36 passes on 47 attempts for 352 yards and touchdowns to Martellus Bennett and Brandon Marshall.

McCown was intercepted at the end of the game, but it was largely inconsequential at that point. It was his first interception after 148 attempts this season. He also was sacked and stripped of the ball by end Robert Quinn, who picked up the ball and ran it in for a touchdown, which just made the St. Louis winning margin 21 instead of 14.

McCown was a little off on a couple of red-zone throws, including a swing pass to Michael Bush that was overthrown. But his passer rating stood at 102.4 even with an interception.

“I just know I have to be better down there,” McCown said. “All I know is when my number was called a few times, I felt like I could have maybe done better. So I’ll look at those things and try to improve those.”
