Alshon Jeffery continues to show why GM Phil Emery considered him worth a trade-up in the 2012 draft as Jeffery produced his fifth 100-yard game in 12, catching 12 of 15 passes for a franchise-record 249 yards and touchdowns of 80 and 46 yards.

“He is special,” said Brandon Marshall, who caught four of nine passes thrown to him. “He had a great day and it [stinks] that we lost.”

An anomaly is that the Bears lose a lot when Jeffery has a big game. All the time, in fact. They are 0-5 this season when he nets 100 yards, including the 218-yard performance against the New Orleans Saints. The records are not impressing the second-year wideout.

“The sky’s the limit,” Jeffery said. “I strive to be my best. I would like to go to the Super Bowl and then there are records to break after that.”

Earl Bennett’s grab of a third-down throw behind him helped the offense overcome penalties the play before that could have pushed Robbie Gould out of chip-shot FG range. Martellus Bennett caught just two of five passes to him but accuracy of the throws was an issue.
