Much of quarterback Josh McCown’s effectiveness on Monday is owed to the physical play of his receivers, who continue to grow in the level of impact they have on games.

Alshon Jeffery added to his stature with another highlight catch, this time over helpless Dallas safety Jeff Heath to put the Bears up 24-14 at halftime, a score that appeared to sap what will the Cowboys still had in the horrific cold. Jeffery caught five of the nine passes thrown to him for 84 yards.

“He’s not just helping me out,” said Brandon Marshall, who caught six passes for 100 yards to push him past the 1,000-yard mark for the seventh straight season. “He’s helping the special teams, defense, the whole organization. He’s just special.”

Marshall’s production remains a driver for the offense. But it was his de-cleater block of linebacker Sean Lee that left an impression and fired up the entire Bears side of the field. Marshall, Jeffery and Martellus Bennett all delivered hits both downfield as well as chipping in pass protection to give McCown and the line help.

“There were a number of blitzes that came up in the game,” said coach Marc Trestman. “Not only our line, but Eben [Britton, tackle as extra tight end], Marty or Matt [Forte] picking up blitzes, they all were effective.”

Earl Bennett caught just two passes but the first was for four yards and a touchdown to answer the first Dallas score and bring momentum back to the Bears.

“We have a lot of guys who can make plays,” Bennett said. “Once those guys have an opportunity, the sky’s the limit.”
