But in something of a major momentum changer, punt coverage was egregious in the second quarter, allowing Michael Spurlock to get outside bunched-up tacklers and easily gain the outside for 57 yards. That set up a go-ahead touchdown immediately after the offense squandered a possession starting at the Chicago 42.

Adam Podlesh punted five times for a 40.8-yard average, with a net of just 28.8 factoring in the Spurlock return. But Lions punter Sam Martin averaged 50 on his three punts.
