The group was completely beaten on a critical screen pass just before halftime that went for a 23-yard touchdown to Pierre Thomas, which was a deciding moment in a game that the Bears were still in at the time.
But New Orleans managed just 66 yards on 28 carries, none longer than nine yards, and there was going to be some inevitable damage done by an offense that throws as much as it does to running backs on check-downs.
Drew Brees completed all 12 of his passes thrown to Thomas and Darren Sproles, and Thomas scored twice. A difficult game, with tight end Jimmy Graham thrown in.
Linebackers were involved in more than half (33) of all New Orleans plays (65). Lance Briggs was credited with a sack covering Brees on a broken play and contributed a tackle for loss in the second quarter and another in the third. Briggs finished with a team-high 14 tackles, three for losses and added a hit on Brees.
D.J. Williams added 11 tackles, one for loss, and James Anderson had eight.
