Matt Forte and Michael Bush combined for 150 rushing yards on 31 carries, and Forte caught five passes for another 54 yards for his most productive single outing of the season. He was effective as a safety outlet for McCown, contributed to protections and allowed the offense to control the football with the game on the line.
It was Forte who turned the corner with the fourth-and-inches carry in the fourth quarter, successfully broke the one tackle that the play called for him to beat, and was able provide consistency with 5.2 yards per carry and no run longer than 17 yards.
“It was big to keep running the ball and keep converting on third downs, keep the clock running down,” said Forte, who picked up five of the Bears’ six first downs on the final drive.
Forte scored a go-ahead TD in the second quarter and set up the touchdown with a 33-yard catch on a perfectly run delay out of the backfield.
“Josh [McCown] did a great job back there reading his keys and even hit the checkdown a few times,” Forte said, smiling.
