Michigan depth chart: De'Veon Smith starting RB, still no starting QB

The wait continues for Michigan's starting quarterback, but we found out Monday who the starting running back will be.

De'Veon Smith was the No. 1 back on the Wolverines' depth chart, which was released Monday, with Derrick Green and Ty Isaac listed as co-No. 2s behind Smith. Drake Johnson wasn't listed as he continues to recover from an injury.

The offensive depth chart ahead of the season-opener against Utah was a bit of an aesthetic mess with a ton of "OR" listings. That includes at quarterback, where the battle between Jake Rudock and Shane Morris has yet to be resolved — or at least a winner has yet to be announced.

Smith grabbed the No. 1 running back spot after leading Michigan in rushing last season. That was a modest 519-yard total thanks to a small workload until midway through the season. He had a pair of 100-yard games: 115 yards and two touchdowns on just eight carries against Appalachian State and 121 yards and a score against Northwestern.

It's expected, though, that Green and Isaac — as well as Johnson, when he fully recovers from injury — will still see plenty of action in a very talented backfield.

It might not be until Thursday's game is underway that we discover the starting quarterback.
